Copyright Policy
ReelSaver respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects users to do the same. This page outlines our policy regarding copyright infringement in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
Important Notice
ReelSaver is a tool for downloading publicly available content from Instagram. We do not:
- Host any content on our servers
- Store downloaded files
- Modify or redistribute content
- Claim ownership of any downloaded content
All content is directly sourced from Instagram's public CDN. We merely provide a tool that facilitates downloading content that is already publicly accessible.
User Responsibility
Users of ReelSaver are solely responsible for:
- Ensuring they have the right to download and use content
- Obtaining permission from content creators when required
- Complying with Instagram's Terms of Service
- Respecting copyright and intellectual property laws
- Using downloaded content for personal, non-commercial purposes only
Prohibited Uses
You may NOT use ReelSaver to:
- Download content for commercial purposes without permission
- Redistribute or resell downloaded content
- Claim ownership of content created by others
- Violate Instagram's Terms of Service
- Infringe on anyone's copyright or intellectual property rights
DMCA Takedown Requests
If you believe your copyrighted work has been downloaded using our tool and you wish to report abuse, please note:
We do not host any content. All content is hosted on Instagram's servers. To remove content from the internet, you must:
- Contact Instagram directly to report copyright infringement
- File a DMCA notice with Instagram to remove the content from their platform
- Set your Instagram account to private to prevent public access
Reporting Abuse
If you believe someone is misusing our service to infringe on your copyright, you can contact Instagram's copyright team:

- Instagram's DMCA page: help.instagram.com/intellectual-property
Content Removal
Once content is removed from Instagram, it will no longer be accessible through ReelSaver, as we do not store any files on our servers. Our service acts as a bridge between Instagram's public CDN and your device - we don't cache or archive content.
Timeline: If Instagram removes content due to a DMCA takedown, that content becomes unavailable through our service immediately. There's no delay because we fetch files in real-time, not from storage.
Filing a Proper DMCA Notice
If you are a copyright owner and believe your work is being infringed through our service, here's how to file a proper DMCA notice with Instagram (the content host):
Required Elements of a DMCA Notice:
- Your physical or electronic signature as the copyright owner or authorized agent
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed (e.g., title, URL, registration number)
- Identification of the infringing material on Instagram (specific post URLs)
- Your contact information: address, telephone number, email
- A statement that you have a good faith belief the use is not authorized
- A statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and you're authorized to act
Submit your complete DMCA notice to Instagram at:
Online Form: Instagram Copyright Report Form
Email: copyright@instagram.com (Meta Platforms Ireland Limited)
Mail: Instagram LLC, Attn: Copyright Agent, 1601 Willow Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025, USA
Counter-Notice Procedures
If you believe your content was wrongly removed from Instagram due to a false DMCA claim, you can file a counter-notice directly with Instagram.
Required Elements of a Counter-Notice:
- Your physical or electronic signature
- Identification of the removed content and its location before removal
- A statement under penalty of perjury that the content was removed by mistake or misidentification
- Your name, address, and telephone number
- A statement that you consent to jurisdiction of Federal District Court
- A statement that you'll accept service of process from the person who filed the original notice
Instagram will forward your counter-notice to the original complainant. If they don't file a lawsuit within 10-14 business days, Instagram may restore your content. This process is governed by 17 U.S.C. § 512(g).
Repeat Infringers
Instagram's policy is to terminate accounts of users who repeatedly infringe copyrights. If someone is using our tool to systematically download and redistribute copyrighted content:
- Report the infringing Instagram account directly to Instagram
- Instagram tracks repeat offenders and may suspend or ban their accounts
- Once an account is banned, they can no longer post content that could be downloaded
Our policy: While we cannot track individual users (we don't collect personal data), we reserve the right to block IP addresses or implement technical measures if we become aware of systematic abuse of our service for copyright infringement.
Fair Use & Copyright Exceptions
Users should be aware of "fair use" provisions in copyright law (17 U.S.C. § 107), which may allow limited use of copyrighted material without permission for purposes such as:
- Criticism and commentary: Reviewing or critiquing someone's work
- News reporting: Covering newsworthy events or stories
- Teaching and education: Using materials for classroom instruction
- Scholarship and research: Academic analysis and study
- Parody: Creating transformative humorous content
Fair use is determined by four factors:
- Purpose and character of use (commercial vs. educational)
- Nature of the copyrighted work (factual vs. creative)
- Amount used relative to the whole work
- Effect on the market value of the original work
Note: Fair use is a legal defense, not a right. If you're unsure whether your use qualifies, consult a lawyer. "Personal use" is NOT automatically fair use - downloading someone's copyrighted photo just because you like it doesn't qualify as fair use.
Legal Requirements & Penalties
Understanding copyright law helps you use our service responsibly. Here are key legal points:
⚠️ Copyright Infringement Penalties
Willful copyright infringement can result in statutory damages of $750-$30,000 per work (up to $150,000 for willful infringement), plus attorney fees, legal costs, and potential criminal charges for commercial-scale infringement.
⚠️ False DMCA Claims
Filing a false DMCA notice (claiming you own rights you don't have) is perjury under penalty of law (18 U.S.C. § 1621). You can be sued for damages if you knowingly misrepresent infringement. Don't file DMCA notices unless you're the actual copyright holder or authorized agent.
